We hope you caught the December 10th episode of Maine Calling on MPBN that discussed acupuncture, but if not, we've got you covered! The episode included acupuncturists Chris Haskell of Rocky Coast Family Acupuncture, Tobey Williamson of Good Hearth Eastern Medical Arts, and our own Naomi Skoglund L.Ac., as well as family Primary Care Physician Liz Strawbridge and Helene Langevin MD, head of the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. We were especially excited for the inclusion of Dr. Langevin whose research into acupuncture mechanisms and the role of the fascia have changed so much of our understanding of how acupuncture works! In her short segment (around min 38), Naomi described how she explains acupuncture to her patients. She also discussed how acupuncture can be used to treat a number of women's health conditions, such as:
painful or heavy periods
irregular cycles
PMS & PMDD
endometriosis
fertility struggles
prenatal conditions like nausea and back pain
prenatal and postpartum depression & anxiety
perimenopause and menopause symptoms such as hot flashes
The guests on the show discussed many other conditions that can benefit from acupuncture, as well as how acupuncture has come to be more accepted in the mainstream medical community. Dr Strawbridge explained how powerful acupuncture can be when used within the context of Traditional Chinese Medicine because of the way we look at the various system connections throughout the body.
This episode had so many people writing and calling in, it clearly hit on a hot topic!
